How to Pretend You Like the Cat Shirt your Grandma got you for Christmas for the 9th year Straight

If you are like me, you must know how hard it is to pretend to like gifts that are just absurd. Don’t get me wrong, I am very grateful for the gifts my family gives me and their efforts but sometimes, it is hard pretending to like them. Now my grandma has Alzheimer’s and still thinks I am in 7th grade (if she even remembers me at all <-- that is supposed to be funny). Since she still thinks I am in 7th grade, for the past 9 years, she has gotten me headbands with sparkles on them and shirts with princess kittens on them (or around those categories). In 7th grade, I thought “Hmm, I might be a little to old for this”. Now, being in college, I know I am definitely to old for this. Luckily for me, I have great skills at hiding my amusement and laughter when my grandma gives me this gift every year.

Fortunately for me, I will not have to use these skills this year since she has died but I will still share them for all you folks with alive and somewhat well grandparents (again, this is meant to be funny). The first step is before you even open any gifts, to look sad. This way you will have a great base emotion to work up from. Even a smile will look better then your depression. Next, you need to make sure you do not get to excited when opening other gifts, even if they are awesome gifts. This will help your grandma see that when you open her gift, you are just as excited as all of the others. Next, when you open the headband with a giant flower on it, say you love it then look for your mom and name a random place that you can wear it too (you will never actually wear it). This will lock in the feeling that Grandma thinks she nailed the gift. And that is how you do it. Hope these tips are helpful for those family members who are just bad at giving gifts.

P.S: You can't go wrong with cash!
